Congratulations, Michelle Cullum, Grandview NEA member and winner of the Read to Achieve Award

Cullum wins $1,000 in KCTV5, MNEA contest.

Michelle Cullum, a 3rd grade teacher at Meadowmere Elementary School in Grandview C-4 School District was surprised with a visit Oct. 14 from MNEA Pres. Phillip Murray and KCTV5 meteorologist Erin Little. Pres. Murray presented Cullum with a check for $1,000 for winning the co-sponsored Kansas NEA/Missouri NEA Read to Achieve Contest.  

Cullum plans to use a portion of the money to buy books for her classroom and fund her Kindness Project.

The Read to Achieve Contest runs through April 2020. There is still time to nominate a deserving educator in the Kansas City KCTV5 viewing area.

Even though we are not at school supporting Missouri students, members continue to help every day during this crisis. MNEA wants to share your stories as we struggle through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are hearing about members who are continuing to care for their students by

  • volunteering at school district Grab & Go meal distribution centers and food drives
  • providing child care for essential medical staff
  • shopping for the elderly so they don’t have to leave the safety of their homes

Your stories help show that educators don’t stop caring. Please send your stories with pictures to MNEA at coronavirus@mnea.org, so we can share them. You can post to social media, making sure you tag @MissouriNEA and use the hashtags  #MNEAheroes and  #MNEAprotects.
