The Missouri National Education Association issued the following statement:
“As educators, we are deeply committed to the success of every student. Governor Greitens’ choice to play politics with our schools in an effort to remove a caring and qualified public servant is disruptive and harmful. Our state constitution sets the Commissioner of Education apart from partisan politics so she can be an independent advocate for students. The governor’s Jefferson City style games run contrary to the spirit of our constitution and turn our local schools into political props. We invite the governor to stop the political maneuvers and join teachers and educators in a serious discussion about what works, providing all schools with the resources necessary for more one-on-one attention to students, and creating inviting classrooms and a well-rounded curriculum.”
Action Needed: Stop Partisan Politics at the State Board of Education
The 35,000-member MNEA represents teachers, education support professionals, college faculty, retired teachers and students studying to be teachers in school districts and on college campuses throughout the state. It is the Missouri affiliate of the 3.2 million-member NEA.
